WhatsApp Down: WhatsApp was down for over an hour on Tuesday (25 October 2022), leaving users unable to send or receive messages. This affected both personal and group chats. A Meta spokesperson issued a statement saying, “We are aware that some people are having trouble sending messages and we are working to restore WhatsApp to everyone as soon as possible.” However, this is not the first time that WhatsApp has suddenly gone down. Even before this, WhatsApp has been down many times. Let’s know about this.
Was the WhatsApp outage only in India?
It was a wide outage. WhatsApp didn’t say anything officially, but the hashtag #WhatsAppDown was trending on Twitter, and users from Indonesia, Kenya and Indians, as well as some Spanish-speaking regions, were also complaining about problems with WhatsApp.
Such cases have come to the fore before
- In October 2021, the meta-owned platforms – Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp – were shut down for about six hours after a major outage. It was because of DNS. If DNS doesn’t work properly, your computer is unable to connect to the server hosting the website that someone is looking for.
- Earlier in March 2021, WhatsApp was down for about 45 minutes, and Meta attributed the outage to “a technical issue” that caused a lot of inconvenience.
- In 2020, there were four major WhatsApp outages, the most prominent of which occurred in January. This outage lasted for about three hours. This was followed by an outage for one hour in April, followed by two hours in July and for some time in August 2020.
- In July 2019, outages were reported by users of Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp across the world. Users were facing difficulty in opening their feed or posting or viewing pictures.
