WhatsApp banned 26 lakh accounts: WhatsApp has closed more than 26 lakh Indian accounts in the month of September 2022. These accounts have been banned under Rule 4(1)(d) of the Information Technology Rules, 2021. The September User Safety Monthly Report shows that about 8 lakh accounts were banned before there were any reports from users. The total number of accounts banned in September is almost 3 lakh more than the report for the month of July.
WhatsApp said that it has banned most of the accounts after receiving complaint reports from Indian users with the help of WhatsApp’s complaint system. In addition, the Meta-owned instant messaging app received 666 complaint reports and processed 23 accounts. In total, it banned 2,685,000 Indian accounts between September 1 and September 30.
In the latest report, WhatsApp has stated that the platform takes the safety and privacy of users as a priority. Its end-to-end encrypted messaging system is designed to prevent abuse. In addition to all the security features, WhatsApp said it has a team of engineers, data scientists, analysts, researchers and experts in law enforcement, online security and technology development to oversee user security.
WhatsApp bans users from receiving complaints of repeated spam messages or found violating the conditions set by the platform. Therefore, you are always advised to avoid spamming or messaging unknown contacts.
