Roger Binny likely to be elected president unopposed, BCCI vice-president informed

Roger Binny: Roger Binny, a member of India’s 1983 World Cup winning team, on Tuesday filed his nomination for the post of President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and is expected to be elected unopposed to the top post. BCCI Vice President Rajiv Shukla gave this information. Binny, 67, who hails from Bengaluru, is the only candidate so far to file nomination for the post and will replace Sourav Ganguly at the Board’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) to be held in Mumbai on October 18 if no other candidate submits his candidature. Will be the BCCI President.

A source said that after a week of commotion, it was decided that Binny is the best choice for the 36th chairman of the board. Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s son Jay Shah has also filed his nomination and will continue as BCCI secretary for a second consecutive term if no other candidate is fielded. Apart from Shah, Ganguly is also expected to be the Indian representative on the board of the International Cricket Council (ICC). “Roger Binny has filed nominations for the post of President, I for the post of Vice President, Jay Shah as Secretary, Ashish Shelar as Treasurer and Devjit Saikia for Joint Secretary’s post,” Shukla told reporters. He was offered the post of IPL chairman but he politely declined it. His argument was that he could not head its sub-committee once he was the BCCI president. He (Chairman) had shown interest in continuing in the post.

Arun Dhumal to head IPL Governing Council

He said, “Arun Dhumal will head the IPL governing council and Avishek Dalmiya will also be part of that council. Kherul Jamal (Mamun) Majumdar will be part of the Apex Council. So far these same people have filed their nominations and all are unopposed.” The last day for filing nominations is Wednesday. Candidates can withdraw their nomination till October 14. The final list of candidates for various posts will be published on October 15. His name for the post, however, was hinted at when the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) appointed him as its representative for the BCCI AGM in place of Secretary Santosh Menon. Binny is the KSCA president and will have to step down from the state body.
