The central government can take a big step to bring the prices of LPG in the budget of the general public. It is being told that the central government can release additional subsidy to control the prices of LPG. The amount of subsidy given to oil companies can be spent between Rs 25 to 30,000 crores. However this amount is approximate. The LPG subsidy of Rs 58,012 crore allocated in the Budget Estimates for the financial year 2022-23 is being told in addition.

LPG is getting expensive
Due to the increase in the price of domestic gas cylinder, there is a lot of impact on the pocket of the common man. These prices are increasing continuously. In the last 1 year, the price of LPG cylinder has increased by Rs 244. Its price was last increased by Rs 50 per cylinder in July. At present, the price of 14.2 kg cylinder of non-subsidised LPG has gone up to Rs 1,053 in Delhi. On the other hand, the beneficiaries of Ujjwala scheme are getting it for Rs 853.

Due to Russia’s attacks on Ukraine, there has been a huge jump in the prices of oil and gas in the global market. Which has a direct impact on LPG prices in the country. In the last two years, the price of LPG has increased by 28 percent. On the other hand, Saudi CP, the international benchmark of gas prices, has jumped 300 percent in this period.

According to sources, serious consideration is being given to giving additional subsidy to the government for cooking gas. The additional subsidy will be different from the subsidy already allocated in the budget for the Centre’s Ujjwala scheme. Recently, government oil companies had reduced the price of 19.2 kg commercial LPG cylinder by Rs 91.50 per cylinder. After which the rate of commercial cylinder has come down from Rs 1,976 to Rs 1,885 in Delhi.
