5G Service Launch: 5G services will be available across the country within two years. Union Electronics and Information Technology Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said in an event that 5G telecom services will be launched in India very soon and the government aims to cover the entire country within 2 years. Ashwini Vaishnav had earlier said that India is preparing to launch 5G services by October.
The government had issued spectrum allocation letters to telecom service companies in August. After this the government asked them to prepare for the rollout of 5G services. With this spectrum allocation, India has reached the final stage of launching high-speed 5G telecom services.
Reliance Jio has already announced that it will launch this year Diwali It will launch high-speed 5G telecom services in several major cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai by 2020. After this, its 5G network will be expanded to every city, tehsil and town across the country by December 2023.

What is 5G and how is it different from 3G and 4G services?
5G is the fifth generation mobile network that transmits large sets of data at very high speeds. Compared to 3G and 4G, 5G takes very less time. The 5G rollout is expected to drive further developments in remote data monitoring in areas such as mining, warehousing, telemedicine and manufacturing.
Auction Participating Companies
Four major participants in the spectrum auction were Reliance Jio, Adani Group, Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea.
How much revenue did the government get from the auction?
The DoT received a total of Rs 1.50 lakh crore bids from the recently concluded auction. The revenue from the auction was initially estimated to be Rs 80,000-90,000 crore. 5G services are expected to be about 10 times faster than 4G.
