The Bombay High Court has told them that it has appealed to be responsible and careful while communicating on WhatsApp. The Nagpur bench of the court gave this instruction while dealing with a case involving a person accused of posting content allegedly promoting hatred against a religious group. That is, put the status on WhatsApp with care, otherwise that status can feed you the air of jail.

The court rejected the petition of a person

According to the news, the bench of the court said that WhatsApp status is for giving messages to the contacts of the users. Users often check the status updates of the people present in their contact list. According to the news of Economic Times, in a judgment on July 12, a division bench of Justices Vinay Joshi and Valmiki SA Menezes rejected the petition of a 27-year-old man named Landkar.

In this, the petitioner had demanded the Bombay High Court to cancel the FIR lodged against him for hurting religious sentiments. The man was also charged under the provisions of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act and the IT Act.

Status update remains visible for 24 hours

The court said that WhatsApp status is used as a photo or video related to any idea. This status update is visible only for 24 hours. The initial purpose of this status would be to communicate with the knower or to deliver the message within someone’s contact list. A case was registered against Landkar in March 2023 after he posted a religiously offensive question as a WhatsApp status, prompting viewers to search for it on Google. Objectionable content hurting religious sentiments was found in the search result.
