Sachin Tendulkar Statue: Former Indian legend Sachin Tendulkar may get a special gift from Wankhede Stadium very soon. Tendulkar played the last match of his international career in 2013 at Wankhede Stadium itself. Now, 10 years after his retirement, it has been decided by the Mumbai Cricket Association to install a statue of Lord of Cricket Sachin Tendulkar at the Wankhede Stadium.
Tendulkar can get this gift on his 50th birthday (April 24, 2023) or during the ODI World Cup 2023. Sachin started his career on this ground as well. Now it would be a good thing to install his statue on this ground. This was the ground where Team India won the ODI World Cup final match against Sri Lanka in 2011 and won the title.
Got Sachin Tendulkar’s approval
Talking to ‘Indian Express’, Mumbai Cricket Association President Amol Kale said, “This will be the first statue at the Wankhede Stadium. We will decide where it will be installed. He (Sachin Tendulkar) is a Bharat Ratna and everyone knows what he has done for cricket. As he will be turning 50, this would be a small token of appreciation from MCA. I spoke to him three weeks ago and his approval has been received.”
Stand named after Tendulkar already exists
There is already a stand named after Sachin Tendulkar in the Wankhede stadium. A season ago, the MCA had decided to honor former India captain Sunil Gavaskar with a corporate box and a stand for legendary batsman Dilip Vengsarkar. Now Tendulkar’s statue will enhance the beauty of the ground.
Significantly, Sachin has played a total of 200 Tests, 463 ODIs and 1 T20 International match for Team India. He has scored 15921 runs in Tests and 18426 runs in ODIs. At the same time, he has scored 10 runs in the only T20 International match of his career.
