Retail inflation rises for agricultural and rural workers

The retail inflation for agricultural and rural laborers increased to 6.87 per cent and 6.99 per cent respectively in November on an annual basis. The Labor Bureau under the Ministry of Labor gave this information in a statement on Tuesday. According to this, the Consumer Price Index – Agricultural Laborers (CPI-AL) stood at 3.02 per cent in November, 2021 while the Consumer Price Index – Rural Laborers (CPI-RL) stood at 3.38 per cent. Whereas in October 2022, CPI-AL stood at 7.22 per cent and CPI-RL at 7.34 per cent.

According to the Labor Bureau, the food inflation rate in November 2022 is 6.19 percent for agricultural workers while it is 6.05 percent for rural workers. The all-India consumer price index for agricultural laborers rose eight points to 1,167 in November, while the figure for rural labor stood at 1,178.

Why the inflation rate increased in rural areas

The rate of inflation in rural areas has come higher because the share of food inflation has been higher in it. The inflation rate of food and drink has been talked about earlier also and its share increasing rapidly remains a matter of concern. Especially in rural areas, the inflation rate of these components has increased, out of which the main names are rice, wheat-flour, jowar, millet, pulses, meat, mustard oil, milk, ghee, onions, chillies, mixed spices, tea-readymades. There has been a significant increase in the price.
