ICC World Test Championship Final 2023: Only a few hours are left for the start of the ICC World Test Championship Final 2023. Tomorrow i.e. Wednesday, June 7, the title match will be played between India and Australia at the Kennington Oval in London. Ravi Shastri, Wasim Akram and Ricky Ponting have named Australia as favorites in the final.
Australia have the upper hand in the final – Ricky Ponting
Former Australian captain Ricky Ponting believes that the conditions at The Oval are closer to Australia’s liking, so the Pat Cummins-led side have an upper hand in the final.
Ricky Ponting said in the pre-game live event organized by the ICC, "It’s in Australia’s favor if you look at the conditions, but these are two teams that absolutely deserve to be there. Whoever remains ahead in the game every day in both the teams will have chances of winning."
When asked about his favorite team to win the final, Ponting bets on Australia. They said, "Australia has a slight edge. Both the teams are entitled to be in first and second place. As far as preparation is concerned, the interesting thing is that some of the Australian players have not played cricket at all, while the Indian players have played very competitive cricket in the IPL."
Know what Wasim Akram said
Pakistan’s veteran fast bowler Wasim Akram also told Australia’s team a little ahead of India. But he also believes that the toss and weather will be important factors in the game. They said, "I agree with Ricky. Australia is the favourite. It also depends on the weather and the toss is also important, and the pitch also matters."
Ravi Shastri said this
Former Team India coach Ravi Shastri also believes that the Australian team is very strong on paper. However, he also said that fitness could be a deciding factor. Shastri said, "As Waj (Wasim Akram) and Ricky said, you need to play some cricket. It is very different from just bowling in the nets for two hours, four or five days, six days. So it depends on how they have practised, how they have prepared. Australia have a slight edge, but that match fitness could be the key." he adds, "Mohammed Shami can do a lot of damage to Australia in the first half hour because he is playing too much."
