GeM Portal: Procurement of goods and services from the government portal Government e Marketplace (GeM) has crossed the Rs 2 lakh crore mark in the financial year 2022-2023. Describing it as a remarkable achievement, Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal highlighted the role of GeM as a digital tool in public and national interest.

The Minister said that GeM is a symbol of the momentum with which the Prime Minister Narendra Modi Have taken the country forward through modern technology. He said, I am sure that GeM will grow rapidly, the future is very bright. I would like to appeal more and more vendors to join GeM so that they too get a chance to participate in the procurement process of the Government.
After the launch of the GeM portal, a business of about Rs 400 crore was done and in the second year, GeM did a business of about Rs 5,800 crore. The minister informed that the business through GeM has increased from around Rs 35,000 crore two years ago and has increased three times to Rs 1,06,000 crore last year. He further said that the increase of Rs 2 lakh crore in five years shows that this experiment of the Prime Minister has been successful.
Information received about India’s exports
Piyush Goyal also mentioned that India’s total exports for the financial year 2022-23 have crossed $750 billion and the final figure is expected to cross $765 billion. He told that there was a positive discussion in the G20 Trade and Investment Working Group meeting held in Mumbai recently.
Purchase shows a sense of stability in foreign trade policy
The Union Minister said that India has got the chairmanship of G-20 under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi and it is a great opportunity to showcase the achievements of the rapidly developing ‘New India’ to the world. Speaking about the Foreign Trade Policy 2023 released in the national capital on Friday, he said that it has been welcomed by industry and trade bodies. He said that the sense of stability is reflected in the foreign trade policy.
