West Indies head coach Phil Simmons: West Indies coach Phil Simmons will leave his post soon. He has taken this decision due to the poor performance of the team in T20 World Cup 2022 (T20 WC 2022). The two-match Test series against Australia in November-December this year will be his last series as a coach with the Windies team.

In the T20 World Cup 2022, the West Indies team could not make it to the Super-12. He had to look for an exit in the first round itself. The Windies team had to face defeat against teams like Scotland and Ireland here. While Scotland beat Windies by 42 runs, Ireland beat them by 9 wickets. Even against Zimbabwe, the Windies team could barely register a win.

Windies coach apologizes to fans
After this flop performance of the West Indies team, coach Phil Simmons said, ‘I accept that this performance has hurt not only the team but the entire nation. It was a very disappointing and heartbreaking performance. We didn’t play well and now we are not part of this tournament. We can only see it from outside. For this I apologize to the Windies fans.

‘Will step down as coach after Australia series’
Announcing his departure as coach, Phil Simmons said, “It’s a step I’ve been considering for some time and now it’s time to make it public.” I will step down as West Indies head coach at the end of the Test series against Australia. For the time being, my focus is on this Test series. I will put all my energy on improving my Test team.
