While the expenditure on food items has increased at the rate of only 7 percent.
In the Private Final Consumption Expenditure (PFCE) of the Ministry of Statistics for the financial year 2021-22, expenditure on non-profit serving household like household and temple gurudwaras is included. In this data, 2021-12 has been taken as the base year. According to the data, according to the constant price, there has been an increase of 26 percent in the expenditure on clothes in 2021-22. At the same time, there has been a jump of 14.3 percent in the expenditure on liquor. The expenditure on footwear ie footwear has increased at the rate of 12.8 per cent. While the expenditure on food items has increased at the rate of only 7 percent.
When the expenditure on clothes has increased by 35 per cent on the basis of current prices, the expenditure on footwear has increased by 19.76 per cent and on liquor by 19.16 per cent. While the expenditure on food items has increased at the rate of 11 percent.
Experts believe that this expenditure is from when the country was coming out of Kovid because in the first phase of Kovid, people had cut down the expenditure. In 2021-22, as soon as the effect of corona decreased and people’s income started increasing, then again the consumption went on increasing like the pre-covid times. The growth rate of expenditure on food items is low because despite Kovid there was tremendous demand for food items during that period.
