Shan Masood T20 World Cup 2022: Pakistan batsman Shan Masood on Sunday had to be taken to hospital for a scan after suffering a head injury during a practice session at the Melbourne Cricket Ground ahead of his Super 12 match against India in the ICC T20 World Cup. A Cricbuzz report said that 33-year-old Masood suffered a head injury while waiting for his turn to bat in Pakistan’s practice session.
The report said, “Masood fell to the ground in pain after the injury and was looked after by the team doctor. Thankfully he did not suffer much injury, but was taken to the hospital for further investigation.”
According to another report, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) said that all neurological observations of Masood are normal and his CT scan did not confirm a serious injury where the ball hit. He will go to the hospital on Saturday to get tested again for the injury.
With injury related, Masood now faces an anxious wait to see if he will be made available for selection in Pakistan’s opening match of the tournament against arch-rivals India.
Masood, who played 25 Tests and five ODIs for Pakistan, was recently included in the squad for the T20 World Cup. He made his T20 debut during Pakistan’s seven-match home series against England and has appeared in all 12 matches played in preparation for the T20 World Cup.
Batting at number three in 12 T20Is, Masood has scored 220 runs at an average of 24.44 and a strike-rate of 125, including two half-centuries. If he is unavailable for Sunday’s match, Pakistan could bring in a similar substitute in Fakhar Zaman, who was recently brought back in the 15-man Pakistan squad in place of injured leg-spinner Usman Qadir.
