According to a WHO report, there were about 110,000 measles-related deaths worldwide in 2017. Most of these were children below 5 years of age. If we talk about infection, then according to media reports, Maharashtra has been affected the most in this case, but if we talk about death, then this rate is more in Jharkhand. According to the sources of the Union Health Ministry, Jharkhand has the maximum number of deaths due to measles in the whole country. The number of children who died of measles in Jharkhand is also more than 60 percent of the total deaths in the country. In the last week of November itself, two children died of measles in Giridih district, while nine children have died in the whole of Jharkhand so far. According to the sources of the Union Health Ministry, this year Jharkhand has been the most affected state by Measles. A total of 14 children have died of measles across the country so far, out of which 9 deaths have been registered in Jharkhand.

What is measles?
Measles is an infectious disease spread by virus. Its effect is most on small children. In rural areas it is also known as Chhoti Mata. Its symptoms include rash on the body, fever, runny nose, red eyes, cough and appearance of rashes on the body. It is called Measles in English.
