Sunil Gavaskar advised Rohit Sharma to take a break: Former Indian captain and veteran opener of his time Sunil Gavaskar has advised Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma to take a break. Rohit Sharma’s bat is silent in IPL 2023. He is struggling to score runs continuously. Rohit has scored only 181 runs in seven matches of this season.
Sunil Gavaskar, the first to score 10,000 runs in Test cricket, said that Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma should take a break for a few matches from the ongoing IPL and focus on the World Test Championship final. Rohit had another bad day on Tuesday when he was dismissed for two runs in eight balls against Gujarat Titans.
The Mumbai skipper hasn’t found much success with the bat this season. He has so far scored only 181 runs in seven matches at an average of 25.86 and a strike rate of 135.07. He has been dismissed between 20 and 45 on four occasions.
After the match, Sunil Gavaskar on Star Sports suggested Rohit to take a break for a few matches in the IPL and come back in the later stages of the tournament to be in rhythm for the WTC final.
Gavaskar said, I want to see some changes in the batting order for Mumbai Indians. To be honest, I would also say that Rohit should also take a break for some time and keep himself fit for the World Test Championship final.
He further said, he is just looking a little worried. Maybe he’s thinking about the WTC final, I don’t know. He should take a break of three or four matches so that he can get into the rhythm for the World Test Championship final.
On Mumbai’s performance, Gavaskar said that the franchise needs some miracle to help them qualify for the playoffs. Gavaskar said, only a miracle can see him qualify for the IPL playoffs, the way he is at the moment, yes, he can finish at number four, but he will have to play some exceptional cricket, both with the bat and the bowler.
