India Signs MoU With Egypt On Defense Cooperation As Rajnath Singh Visits Cairo

New Delhi: Defense Minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday met his Egyptian counterpart General Mohamed Zaki in Cairo. Singh who is on a three-day visit to Egypt held bilateral talks with Zaki to expand defense engagements between the two nations. Rajnath Singh also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on defense cooperation and stated that the move will add new impetus and synergy to the relations between India and Egypt and will bolster ties between the two nations.

According to the statement released by the Ministry of Defense, both nations discussed steps to strengthen defense ties and reached a consensus to enhance the conduct of joint exercises and exchange of personnel for training, especially in the field of counter-insurgency.

Both sides agreed to identify proposals for expanding cooperation between the defense industries of India and Egypt in a time-bound manner and expressed happiness at intensified defense engagement and exchanges, over the last year, despite the Covid pandemic, the statement read.

Talking about his meeting with Egypt’s Defense Minister, Rajnath Singh tweeted: “Had an excellent meeting with Egypt’s Defense Minister, General Mohamed Zaki in Cairo. We had wide-ranging discussions on several initiatives to further expand bilateral defense engagements. Signing of the MoU on Defense Cooperation adds new impetus and synergy to our relations.”

Rajnath Singh is on a three-day visit to Egypt starting on Sunday with an aim to extend defense cooperation between the two nations. Prior to the commencement of talks, Singh was accorded a ceremonial Guard of Honor at the Ministry of Defense in Cairo.
