‘I played for Dhoni before the country…’, Suresh Raina now reveals the secret of his retirement

On the eve of Independence Day, one of the most successful captains in Indian cricket history, wicketkeeper-batsman Mahendra Singh Dhoni announced his retirement from international cricket. Cricket fans could not even recover from his decision that after some time, Suresh Raina, the batsman who played with him for a long time, also announced his retirement.

Suresh Raina was 33 years old at that time, although he had been out of the Indian team for a long time before that. But he was also an important part of the Chennai Super Kings team at that time along with Dhoni. Raina played his last international match in the year 2018 during the ODI series played on the tour of England.

Now Suresh Raina also told the reason for his decision to retire from international cricket just a short while after Dhoni. Talking to Sports Tak, Raina said that we have played a lot of cricket together. I consider myself lucky in this matter that I got a chance to play together with Dhoni in India and Chennai Super Kings.

Raina further said that I come from Ghaziabad and Dhoni from Ranchi. I play for Dhoni first and then for the country. We have played many important finals together, from World Cup to IPL. Apart from being a great leader, he is also a good human being.

Raina became the first player for India to score an international century in all three formats

If we look at Suresh Raina’s international cricket, he was a great batsman as well as a great fielder. Apart from this, he also became the first Indian player in whose name the feat of scoring a century in all three formats of international cricket was registered. Raina played his last IPL season in the year 2021.

After this, he gave his name for the auction of the 2022 IPL season. But when no team bought him, then after that Raina announced his retirement from IPL as well. Apart from 5 ODI centuries in the name of Raina, 1-1 century is recorded in Test and T20.
