Misinformation Combat Alliance proposal: The trend of fake news has increased rapidly due to social media. Today everyone has a smartphone and he is uploading something or the other on social media every minute. Good things are less but rumors or wrong kind of news spread fast through social media and due to this the environment of society, city or state deteriorates rapidly. To rein in the news, well-known social media companies Meta and Google have sent a proposal to the government, in which the companies have told the government that they want to create a network of fact checkers, which will keep an eye on the fake content being spread on the platform. . Companies have filed this network under the name ‘Information Combat Alliance’, in which all the big companies of social media will be there. In this proposal sent to the IT Ministry, it has been said that this alliance will work like a certification body and then keep an eye on the news and prevent them from spreading. This unit is specially being formed so that whatever wrong kind of news or rumors are being spread against the government on social media can be stopped and the atmosphere can be prevented from deteriorating.
After the arrival of this proposal, the IT Ministry has issued a new notice on Thursday and amended the Information Technology Rules 2021, in which it has been said that a new fact-checking team will be formed to prevent the spread of false news against the government. . Under the proposal, separate teams will be formed for both the country and abroad, which will keep an eye on the news in different ways.
Currently fake news is checked like this
Meta currently works with fact-checkers to prevent the spread of fake news. Fact Checker is certified by International Fact Checking Network which was established in 2015. The members of this team first check the accuracy and accuracy of the news and then share the information on that subject. This is a US based network. But the Indian government does not want them to rely on any other network, so the government wants to make its own home network.
Let me tell you, miss information is a big problem in India, due to which the atmosphere becomes very tense at times. Facebook, WhatsApp, YouTube etc. are used a lot in India. In such a situation, it is necessary to have a fact check unit because it can be useful to the government and common citizens in many ways. According to a report published in Sage’s International Federation of Library Association and Institution General 2021, the maximum misinformation was communicated through social media in India during Kovid-19. The reason for this is the increasing consumption of social media and people not being educated and aware.
