Penalty on Google: The jury ordered Google to pay $15.1 million. This fine has been imposed for violation of two patent rules related to Audio Software and Google will have to pay it.
In one case, Personal Audio argued that Google’s music app Google Play Music featured playlist downloading, navigation and editing features that infringed on its patent rights. The jury also said that Google knowingly infringed the patent. In such a situation, this amount can increase up to three times.
On the other hand, Google said on Wednesday that it is disappointed with the decision and plans to appeal. The tech giant also said that the decision concerns a discontinued product and will not affect customers.
Google will pay fine to this firm
According to a Reuters report, the amount of the fine will be paid to Yoka Carlson & Routh, Stradling Personal Audio’s law firm. A company spokesperson said on Wednesday that it was pleased with the decision. Beaumont, Texas-based Personal Audio requested $33.1 million in damages, according to a lawsuit filed in May. It first sued Google in 2015 over the patent, which was later transferred from Texas to Delaware.
San Francisco jury verdict
The Delaware ruling comes less than a month after a San Francisco jury ordered Google to pay Sonos $32.5 million for patent infringement amid an intellectual property dispute between the companies over smart-speaker technology.
