FPI: Foreign investors’ confidence returned to the domestic market, bumper buying in the first week of November

Foreign Investor Buying: Foreign investors, who had pulled out from the Indian markets for two months, made a strong comeback in the first week of November, buying shares worth Rs 15,280 crore in the domestic equity markets. Stock market experts say that foreign investors bought heavily in the Indian markets in anticipation of a softening stance on the hike in policy rates by the US central bank Federal Reserve.

Between November 1 and 4, investment of more than Rs 15,000 crore came
According to data received from depositories, FPIs invested Rs 15,280 crore in Indian equity markets between November 1 and 4. Earlier, FPIs had made net withdrawals worth Rs 8 crore from Indian markets in October and Rs 7,624 crore in September.

Earlier, FPIs had net purchases of shares worth Rs 51,200 crore in August and about Rs 5,000 crore in July. For the preceding nine months, FPIs were constant sellers. In this way, so far this year, FPIs have made a total net withdrawal of Rs 1.53 lakh crore from the Indian markets. For the time being, foreign investors remain buyers in the hope of a slight softening of the tough trend of interest rate hike in the US. Last week, the Sensex gained 990.51 points or 1.65 per cent, while the Nifty gained 330.35 points or 1.85 per cent.
