After iPhone SE 2020, iPhone 11 and iPhone 12 smartphones were exported the most from India. The iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 were manufactured in Foxconn Company.
Impact of PLI Scheme
Apple started producing the iPhone domestically in India about two years ago. For this, the government had announced its PLI scheme for smartphones in April 2020. However, due to Kovid 19, the scheme could not take off. In such a situation, the 5-year scheme was increased by one year to 6 years by the government. According to experts, this scheme helped in making India an export center of phones. Along with this, the domestic demand could be met to an extent. According to media reports, the central government is preparing to spend a total of Rs 40,951 crore in 5 years for smartphone PLI.
Figures expected to reach 20,000 crores by 2023
Apple exported iPhones worth Rs 8,000 crore from India in the last 5 months. This export includes phones of iPhone 11, 12 and 13. This figure is expected to reach Rs 20,000 crore by March 2023. Let us tell you that till March 2022, exports were mainly done to Europe and Middle East countries. The country is slowly and steadily hitting the strategy of China Plus One.
