Indore Test, Rohit Sharma’s Statement: In the third Test match played between India and Australia in Indore, the Indian team had to face a crushing defeat by 9 wickets. The batting department of the team was a complete flop in this match. Cheteshwar Pujara scored 59 runs in the second innings, in the remaining two innings no Indian batsman could cross the mark of 30 runs. After this defeat, Indian captain Rohit Sharma pointed out the shortcomings of the team. He told what went wrong with the team in this match.
What did Rohit Sharma say?
Talking after the match, Rohit Sharma said, “When you lose a Test match, many things are not in your favour. We didn’t bat well in the first innings, we understand how important it is to put runs on the board in the first innings and when they got a lead of 80-90 runs we had to play another good innings but we couldn’t do that again . We scored just 75 runs, if we had batted well in the first innings, things would have been different. We haven’t thought about the final of the World Test Championship yet. We have some time to think about the Ahmedabad Test. We need to regroup and try to understand what we did right in the first 2 games.”
The Indian captain said, “We need to understand that no matter what the pitch is, we have to go out on the field and do our job. We need to keep it simple and follow the plan. You need to be brave when you are playing on challenging pitches. I think we allowed their bowlers to bowl at a particular spot. Not taking any credit for their bowlers. Especially Nathan Lyon, he kept challenging us to hit the right length.
could not reconcile
Rohit further said, “We should be a little braver when the bowlers are trying to do that, which I felt we were not. Things like this happen, but we can take credit for how we batted in the first two games. It is all about everyone coming together and contributing. We want some players to stand up and raise their hands to take the team forward. You’re going to falter in your plans and that’s what happened in this match, we just didn’t adjust as well as we wanted to.”
