Air India News: If you are a senior citizen or student and travel by Air India at concessional rates, then there is bad news for you. Tata Group’s aviation company Air India has reduced the basic fare discount given to senior citizens and students in economy class. Now the exemption of rent available to both these categories of citizens has been reduced to half.
Know how much the discount on rent has come down
According to the company’s website, the revised discount in the basic fare has come into effect from September 29 i.e. yesterday. Till now Air India was giving 50 percent discount in both these categories but according to the information available on Air India website senior citizens and students will get 25 percent discount on the basic fare of tickets issued on or after September 29. This discount will be available on select booking category in economy cabin.
What did Air India say?
Air India has said in a statement that the discount on fares available to senior citizens and students has been reduced as it is reasonable to do so according to the market conditions. Keeping in view the aggregate market conditions and changing dynamics, we have made our fare discounts as per industry trends.
Air India is still giving more discount – spokesperson
An Air India spokesperson has said that even after these new decisions, if compared with other private airlines, then the fare discount for senior citizens and students is double. However, it is to be noted that no change has been made in the concessional exemption available to other sections.
Air India with Tata Group
The Tata group acquired loss-making Air India from the government on January 27 this year and since then there have been many reports about the revival of the company. The company has announced to include many new aircraft in its fleet and start flights on the new route.
