Willful Loan Defaulters: Many big government and private sector banks help companies and people to grow their business through loans. But many of these people deliberately start hesitating to return the bank loan. Such people are called willful defaulters. According to the report published in Moneycontrol, it has been learned that willful defaulters have defrauded many big banks of the country to the tune of Rs 88,435 crore this year. Whereas last year this figure was only Rs 75,294. In such a situation, the number of willful defaulters of banks has increased this year.

These banks got cheated of crores

According to the report, these willful defaulters have cheated many banks of both government and private sector of the country. This includes many government and private banks like Punjab National Bank, HDFC Bank, Bank of Baroda, IDBI Bank.

Who are called willful defaulters?

Willful defaulters are those people who do not pay the EMI of the loan despite being able to do so. Such people do not intentionally give bank money. According to TransUnion CIBIL, till December 2022, PNB owes Rs 38,712 crore to these willful defaulters. Whereas Bank of Baroda has a total outstanding of Rs 38,009 crore till January 2023. Last year this figure was Rs 24,404 crore, which has now gone beyond Rs 38,000 crore. At the same time, HDFC Bank, the largest private sector bank, has an outstanding of Rs 11,714 crore. Till March last year, this figure was Rs 9,007 crore. On the other hand, IDBI Bank has a total loan outstanding of Rs 26,400 crore till February 2023.

This is the country’s top willful defaulter

Giving information about willful defaulters, Minister of State for Finance Bhagwat Karad while giving information about this in Parliament said that Gitanjali Gems Limited is the biggest willful defaulter company in the country. The company has defaulted a total loan of Rs 7,848 crore. At the same time, Era Infra is on the second number in this list. Banks owe Rs 5,879 crore on this company. At the same time, the third name in this list is Rei Agro. The total outstanding amount on this company is Rs 4,803 crore.
