Once, as usual, Emperor Akbar was listening to the problems of the subjects in his court. Everyone had reached the court with their own problems. In these, Raghav and Keshav also came to the court with their problems. Raghav and Keshav both were neighbours. Their problem was that there was a mango tree full of fruits in the middle of their house, on which both were claiming their ownership. Raghav said that this tree is his and Keshav is lying. On the other hand, Keshav said that he himself is the real owner of this tree and Raghav is lying.

Now how can there be two owners of one tree. This problem of one tree and two owners was very complicated. Because neither of them was ready to give up and both Raghav and Keshan were asserting their rights on the tree. In such a situation, Akbar listened to both the sides and after a lot of thought, handed over the matter to one of his Navratnas, Birbal.

Birbal created a drama

Birbal created a drama to solve this problem and to find out the truth. On the same day, Birbal asked two soldiers to go to Raghav’s house and tell him that mangoes were being stolen from his mango tree. After this, he asked two soldiers to go to Keshav’s house and convey the same message. At the same time, Birbal also said that after giving the message, he should hide behind the house and see what would be the reaction of Raghav and Keshav after this message. The soldiers did exactly as Birbal said.

Two soldiers went to Keshav’s house and two to Raghav’s house. But they came to know that both Raghav and Keshav are not in the house. In such a situation, the soldiers gave this message to their wives that mangoes are being stolen from the trees. When Keshav came home, his wife told him about the theft of mangoes. Hearing this, Keshav said, O fortunate man, at least feed me food. Why should I sit hungry now in the wake of mangoes? And anyway which one is our own. If theft is happening then let it happen. Saying this, Keshav sat comfortably and started eating food.

But when Raghav came home and his wife told him about the theft of mangoes, he ran away like a tree on hearing this. His wife shouted from behind that, hey, at least eat the food. Raghav said, I can eat food even in the morning. But if mangoes are stolen today, my whole year’s hard work will go in vain. The soldiers saw this whole scene hiding outside the house of both and went to the court and told the whole thing to Birbal.

The next day both Keshav and Raghav appeared in the court and in front of both of them Birbal said to Akbar, Jahanpanah! The root of the whole problem is the mango tree. In such a situation, why don’t we get that tree cut down. Neither the bamboo will remain, nor the flute will play. Akbar asked Raghav and Keshav about this, what do both of you think about this? On this Keshav said, Huzoor is your rule. I will silently accept whatever you say. But Raghav said, Master, I have watered this tree for seven years. You may give this tree to Keshav, but please don’t get it cut. I fold my hands before you sir.

The tree got the true owner and the liar was punished

After listening to Keshav and Raghav, when Akbar looked at Birbal and said, what do you have to say Birbal. After this Birbal told Akbar the story of last night and said, Jahampanah! How can the tree have two more owners? After last night’s incident and today’s incident, it has been proved that Raghav is the real owner of the tree and Keshav is lying.

Akbar congratulated Birbal for very intelligently finding out the real owner of the tree and also congratulated Raghav for fighting for his rights. Akbar ordered Keshav to be imprisoned for stealing and lying.
