Jaydev Unadkat on Test Comeback: Jaydev Unadkat recently got a chance to play Test match after 12 years. He was part of Team India’s playing-11 in the last and decisive match of the two-match Test series against Bangladesh. He was included in the team in place of Kuldeep Yadav. Kuldeep Yadav was the ‘Player of the Match’ of the first Test of the series against Bangladesh. In such a situation, when Unadkat was asked whether he was feeling extra pressure after replacing Kuldeep, who was the hero of the previous match, he flatly denied having any such pressure.
Talking to PTI, Jaydev Unadkat said, ‘I was not under any pressure at all. When you are not expecting anything and things happen, I take it as the result of my struggle. I just wanted to give my full contribution in that match. If I didn’t get the wicket, I would have tried to create pressure from the other end. This was the only thought going on in my mind.
Unadkat said, ‘I got the opportunity because the team management found me suitable to the pitch. The condition of the pitch was very similar to that of Rajkot. There was not much pace, you had to keep the length hard and try to get the best out of the pitch. I knew that if I stick to my strengths, things will fall in my favor and that’s why I got extra bounce from the pitch.
‘I was sure I would get a chance’
On getting a chance to wear the Test jersey after 12 years, Unadkat said, ‘I was always sure that I would get another chance. Leading Saurashtra gave me more opportunity to focus on my game. It helped me see the future. Significantly, Unadkat made his Test debut in the year 2010. But after the debut test, he never got a chance to play the test again. After 12 years, he got a place in the playing-11 in the Mirpur Test.
