Vande Bharat: Russo-Indian consortium- Transmashholding (TMH) and Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL) have placed the lowest bid to manufacture 200 Vande Bharat trains. More train wheels from Russia are expected to come to India. The officers provided this information. The 16-coach Vande Bharat train runs on 64 wheels and the total number of wheels for 200 trains will be 12,800.
TMH-RVNL consortium bid the lowest
The TMH-RVNL consortium was the lowest bidder for making 200 Vande Bharat trains at Rs 120 crore per train. The total value is Rs 24,000 crore. Serving and retired officers said that not only India’s prestigious Vande Bharat, but many other trains are running on imported wheels. The Government of India had earlier announced its decision to make 400 Vande Bharat trains.
About 15 percent import material in Vande Bharat
Sudhanshu Mani, retired general manager of Integral Coach Factory, said, “Vande Bharat has about 15 percent import material. One of the imported items is the wheel on which the train runs.” He said that this item is being imported due to capacity crunch in rolling out wheels.
Vande Bharat wheels are imported from Russia and other countries
A senior ICF official said on the condition of anonymity, “Wheels for Vande Bharat were imported from Ukraine earlier. But after the Russia-Ukraine war, wheels are imported from China, Russia and other countries.” According to Mani, there is sufficient demand from the Indian Railways and the wheel manufacturing capacity can be increased. He said that the wheels of the train are being imported from China, Ukraine, Czechia, Russia.
