US Denies Russia’s ‘Ludicrous’ Claim Of Being Involved In Drone Attack On Kremlin

The US has rejected the ‘ludicrous’ claims of Moscow accusing it of involvement in an alleged drone attack on the Kremlin. Moscow’s allegations were followed by a warning by the country’s deputy foreign minister stating that both the powers were on the precipice of an “open-armed conflict”, CNN reported. “We are well aware that decisions on such actions and such terrorist attacks are not made in Kyiv, but in Washington. And Kyiv is already executing what it is told to do,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said as quoted by CNN.

US National Security Council coordinator for strategic communications John Kirby denied Russia’s ‘ludicrous’ claim that the alleged attack took place on the directions of the US. “I would just tell you Mr. Peskov’s lying. I mean, it’s obviously a ludicrous claim. The United States had nothing to do with this. We don’t even know what happened here,” said Kirby, as quoted by the media.

“But I can assure you the United States had no role in it whatsoever,” he said.

Peskov said an urgent investigation was under way and that any response would be carefully considered and balanced adding that more information would be released later.

Russia has increasingly accused the United States of being a direct participant in the Ukraine war with the intent of inflicting a “strategic defeat” on Moscow. Washington denied this, saying it was arming Kyiv to defend itself and retake illegally seized land.

Last year, Ukraine claimed several attempts on President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s life since the Russian invasion on February 24. The Ukrainian government had prepared for operations in the event of Zelenskyy’s death as a precautionary measure. The country claimed that four assassination attempts were made within a month of the invasion.

Last week, a drone attack triggered a massive fire at a fuel storage facility in the Crimean port city of Sevastopol, news agency Reuters quoted the Moscow-installed governor as saying. No casualties have been reported.
