UN General Assembly President Csaba Korosi To Visit India From January 29-31

New Delhi: The President of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), Csaba Korosi will make an official visit to India from January 29 to 31 and hold key meetings on priorities of the General Assembly, news agency ANI reported.

This will be his first bilateral visit to any country since Korosi assumed the UNGA Presidency in September 2022.

Korosi, who is a career diplomat from Hungary and served as his country’s permanent representative to the UN, will be visiting at the invitation of external affairs minister S Jaishankar.

According to a statement issued by the UNGA, during his visit, Csaba Korosi will meet with EAM Jaishankar in New Delhi, while continuing on topics raised during their last meeting in December, including India’s engagement with the UN body.

The UNGA chief’s visit will also include conversations with government officials, leading national scientists and academicians, and will also have field visits related to sustainable water use, as per the UNGA statement.

Notably, President Korosi’s official visit, at the invitation of the Indian government, coincides with the assassination anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi and Martyrs’ Day, that the President will commemorate by laying a wreath at Rajghat.

The UNGA chief will also give a public address at the Indian Council of World Affairs, under the theme of his priorities for the current General Assembly session – “Solutions through Solidarity, Sustainability and Science,” the official statement said.

Csaba Korosi is also scheduled to take part in field visits in Bengaluru, where he will visit a water project site.

As per reports, after wrapping up his India visit, the UNGA chief will head to China, where he will visit the International Research Center of Big Data for Sustainable Development Goals.
