Tomato Rate: As the prices of tomatoes are increasing, the series of news related to it continues unabated. It is discussed everywhere that Indian families have to empty their pockets to buy tomatoes. According to the government data, if the prices of tomatoes are seen, then an increase of 326.13 percent can be seen in it in the last one month.
Tomato farmers earned Rs 38 lakh
According to a report in the Times of India, people may be troubled by the rising prices of tomatoes, but for a farmer’s family, it has become a bumper earning opportunity. In Kolar, Karnataka, a farmer family sold a total of 2000 tomato cans and returned home with a total earning of Rs 38 lakh. Actually Prabhakar Gupta and his brother have been doing farming for more than 40 years and they have 40 acres of land in Bethmangala in the district.
This farmer sold a box of tomatoes for Rs 1900
So far Prabhakar Gupta’s family got Rs 800 for a 15 kg box of tomatoes, which was their best earning till date. However, on this Tuesday, he sold a box of 15 kg for Rs.1900. Prabhakar Gupta’s cousin told that he grows only high quality tomatoes. With the help of their fertilizer and pesticide knowledge, they are able to save the crop from insects.
Here a box of tomatoes sold for Rs 2200
Tomato seller farmer Venkatraman Reddy is a resident of Vyazkur village in Chintamani taluka. He also sold a box containing 15 kg tomatoes for a total of Rs 2,200 on Tuesday. He told that earlier he got the highest price for his crop two years back when he got Rs 900 for a 15 kg tomato box. He had taken 54 boxes of tomatoes to the APMC market in Kolar, out of which he got Rs 2200 per box for 26 boxes while for the remaining boxes he got a bid of Rs 1800 per box. In this way, he earned Rs 3.3 lakh from his tomato crop. Venkataraman Reddy had grown tomatoes on his one acre of land and for this he got a bumper profit this year.
Tomatoes are being sold very expensive in Kolar market
Sudhakar Reddy of Kolar’s KRS Tomato Market informed that the prices of tomatoes are increasing due to less supply of tomatoes. On this Tuesday, 15 kg boxes of tomatoes were sold in the mandi at the rate of Rs. 2200 to Rs. 1900 per box. He recalled that earlier in November 2021, he had received Rs 2000 per box for tomatoes. He also told the authorities that they should take steps to save the crop from insects.
Many tomato farmers had stopped growing tomato crop in the last several months as they were not getting good prices for this crop and they were getting cheaper continuously. However, on July 11, 2023, the all India retail price of tomatoes was Rs 108.92 per kg.
