New Delhi, 08 October 2024: The University of East Anglia (UEA), ranked among the top 25 universities in the UK, has introduced a special scholarship for Indian students enrolling in its BSc Biomedical Science program with an optional NHS (National Health Services) placement year. This scholarship, valued at £4,000 per year, provides significant financial assistance throughout the duration of the course, making it an attractive opportunity for Indian students aiming to pursue careers in biomedical science within the UK’s NHS.

The four-year Biomedical Science degree is designed to equip students with both in-depth theoretical knowledge and practical skills, focusing on real-world applications. One of the program’s key features is the optional NHS placement in the third year. This placement offers students the chance to work as trainee biomedical scientists in IBMS-approved NHS laboratories, subject to availability, demand, and the student’s academic performance and suitability.

Throughout the placement, students will complete the Institute of Biomedical Science (IBMS) training portfolio, which sets the foundation for obtaining HCPC registration as professional Biomedical Scientists. This hands-on experience is integral to developing the expertise required for a successful career in the field.

Dr Mark Williams, Associate Professor, School of Biological Sciences, University of East Anglia, UK said, “This scholarship represents our commitment to nurturing global talent in Biomedical Science. By combining financial support with our innovative NHS placement year, we have created a fantastic opportunity for students to receive world-class education and invaluable hands-on experience in the UK healthcare sector. We believe this programme will empower the next generation of biomedical scientists to make significant contributions to global healthcare.”

This scholarship reiterates UEA’s commitment to fostering global talent and supporting international students in their educational endeavours. UEA aims to make its world-class education further accessible to Indian students by reducing the financial burden and offering exceptional training and career opportunities in the UK healthcare sector.

Students enrolled in this programme have the flexibility to choose between two-degree options: Biomedicine (BSc Hons) and Biomedical Science (BSc Hons). The first-year curriculum is identical for both, allowing students to decide on their specialisation as they progress.
