Heart Scan: Recently, many such cases have been seen in which fitness freak people died due to heart attack. last year famous standup comedian Raju Srivastava Had died due to heart attack. Whereas before this, Siddharth Shukla, considered to be the fittest actor in the television industry, lost his life due to this. This is not one or two cases. Rather, there have been cases of cardiac arrest after many people joined the gym. Many celebrities and young athletes who always used to be fitness models for their fans, died suddenly due to heart attack during their exercise.
According to an India Today report, Dr. Prateek Chowdhary at the Asian Hospital in Pune advised people to get a heart scan done before joining the gym. He says that there is no need for a cardiac test for someone who has never exercised or done a light workout in general. This workout includes physical activities like walking and swimming. A heart attack during exercise is usually caused by a gradual build-up of calcified plaque in the arteries. This can increase and make the coronary arteries narrower. Because of which the risk of heart attack increases. Because doing physical activities can put more pressure on the heart.
Who should get heart scan done?
However, if you have a history of heart-related diseases in your family, then it is always considered better to get a heart scan done, even if you are not joining a gym. Dr. Chowdhary has advised that people having history of heart disease in the family till the age of 30-35 years must get a heart scan done. Dr. Chaudhary said that if there are cases of blood sugar level and premature heart disease in your family, then in those cases people do not need to get any cardiac test done. But if you want to do high intensity workouts, heavy weights or competitive sports then there are some tests which should be done including ECG, echo and TMT (treadmill test).
These tests will tell about your heart fitness. In addition, evaluation of blood sugar level, cholesterol or lipid profile should be done even if you are not planning to hit the gym. Before starting any heavy exercise, people can get a coronary calcium scan or heart scan, which is helpful in measuring calcium-rich plaque in the arteries. It can also give information about any risk of heart disease.
