The latest name added to this list is that of Nikhil Kamath, co-founder of discount broking company Zerodha. According to a report in Business Today, Nikhil Kamath is going to donate almost half of his total wealth. In this way, his name has been included in the list of legendary moneylenders like Warren Buffet and Bill Gates.

According to the report, Kamath has joined The Giving Pledge established in 2010 by Warren Buffet, Melinda French Gates and Bill Gates. Billionaires participating in this campaign donate most of their wealth for social welfare purposes. Even before Kamath, some Indian billionaires have chosen the path of donating their wealth. Before him, Azim Premji, Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw and Rohini and Nandan Nilekani have also joined The Giving Pledge. Kamath is the fourth and youngest Indian to join it.

100 crores were given last year

This is not the first time that Kamath has decided to donate for social welfare. According to the Edelgive-Hurun India Philanthropy List 2022, Nikhil Kamath and his brother Nitin Kamath donated Rs 100 crore from their wealth in 2022. Nikhil Kamath’s recent donation will be spent in areas like climate change, energy, education and health.

So far, 241 billionaires from 29 countries have joined Warren Buffet’s The Giving Pledge. Tesla CEO Elon Musk is also included in the big names associated with this. Apart from them, LinkedIn co-founder Reid Hoffman and his partner Michelle Yee, Jeff Bezos’ divorced wife and philanthropist MacKenzie Scott, Canva co-founders Melanie Perkins and Cliff Obrecht have also joined it.
