Border-Gavaskar Trophy Record: The Border-Gavaskar series played between India and Australia started in 1996. This year only one match was played between the two teams, in which the Indian team won by 7 wickets. Many records were made in all the series that happened after this. Out of this, we are going to tell you about such a special record, which has been made by the bowlers.
Actually, we are going to tell you about such bowlers, who have taken 5-5 wickets (5 wicket haul) in both the innings of the same match of the Border-Gavaskar series. This has happened a total of 8 times so far, in which Indian bowlers have done this feat 5 times. At the same time, Kangaroo bowlers have accomplished this feat three times. Glenn McGrath, Harbhajan Singh, Anil Kumble, R Ashwin, Nathan Lyon and Steve O’Keefe are included in this list.
When did this happen?
- Former Australian fast bowler Glenn McGrath first accomplished this feat in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. He did this in the last match of the series played in 1999-2000. This match was played on January 2, 2000. In this match, McGrath took 5-5 wickets in both the innings.
- For the second time, former Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh did this in the series played in 2001. He took 5-5 wickets in both the innings of a match of that series. After this, for the third time, Harbhajan Singh again took 5-5 wickets in both the innings of the next match of the series.
- Harbhajan Singh did the same for the fourth time as well. This time he did so in the series played in 2004.
- After this, in the second match of the same series (2004), former Indian spinner Anil Kumble managed to do so. He took 5-5 wickets in both the innings of a match. Kumble became the fifth bowler to do so in the series.
- Indian spinner R Ashwin did this for the sixth time in 2013. He took 5-5 wickets in both the innings of a match of that series.
- Australian spinner Nathan Lyon did this for the seventh time. He took 5-5 wickets in both the innings of a match of the 2014 series.
- After this, for the eighth time, Steve O’Keefe took 5-5 wickets in both innings of a match in the 2017 series. (Note any bowler can have more than five wickets. Here only 5 wicket haul is mentioned.)
