Cyber Fraud: With the increasing use of internet in India, the cases of cyber crime are increasing rapidly. People use internet for all the important work from shopping to ordering food etc. In such a situation, the trend of online platforms has increased even for renting or buying own property, but it is very important to be careful while doing so. A shocking case of fraud has come to light in the country’s IT city Bengaluru through a reputed real estate portal. Through the NoBroker portal, some people have cheated a software engineer of Rs 1.60 lakh.
What is the whole matter?
According to the report published in the Times of India, the software engineer, who was a victim of fraud, said that he was looking for a new flat to shift to Bangalore with his girlfriend. Recently, he has got a job in a new company, after which he had to shift by June 1, 2023. For this reason, he was looking for a good rental flat on many real estate portals. He liked a flat in Marathahalli area after which he contacted on the given number. The alleged owner of the flat described himself as a retired officer of the Indian Army. After that the person gave the number of his manager and asked to talk further. When the software engineer talked to the manager, he took Rs 1.60 lakh from the person in total 8 transactions in the name of advance payment.
After transferring the money, when this person tried to contact the owner of the flat, both his and his manager’s numbers were switched off. The software engineer, who was a victim of fraud, said that NoBroker portal was a well-known website, so he had no doubt.
What did the company say?
After this case of fraud came to light, NoBroker has issued a statement saying that the advertisement of this house has been removed. Along with this, the company said on this fraud that this mistake was entirely the fault of the tenant as they transferred lakhs of rupees to the alleged landlord’s account without any investigation. Significantly, in the last few years, a tremendous increase has been seen in the cases of cybercrime through this online medium. In such a situation, always cross check before renting a house, shopping etc. through any portal. If you are looking for a rental house through online medium, then first of all see the property yourself. Give advance to someone only after this.
