During the financial year 2022-23, the government has earned a lot from tax. During the last financial year, the Indian industry (India Inc) has given a lot of money to the government exchequer. According to Ace Equity data, BSE 500 companies (BSE 500 Firms) paid tax of more than Rs 3.60 lakh crore during the last financial year.
Top-500 companies paid this much tax
According to the data, the country’s 500 largest listed companies contributed Rs 3.64 lakh crore to the exchequer in the form of corporate tax during the last financial year. This is 7 percent more than the year before i.e. Rs 3.41 lakh crore in the financial year 2021-22. In this way, the government is earning more year after year from corporate income tax.
Only government companies ahead of Tata
Government companies have been at the top in terms of paying maximum tax. All listed government companies together have paid tax of Rs 1.08 lakh crore during the financial year 2022-23. At the same time, Tata group is at number one in private corporate. The listed companies of the Tata group have contributed more than Rs 30,000 crore to the exchequer during the last financial year. A total of 17 Tata group companies are included in the BSE-500 index.
These corporate groups were included in the top-5
After the Tata Group, India’s richest person Mukesh Ambani’s companies are numbered. Ambani’s Reliance group companies have paid income tax of Rs 20,730 crore during the last financial year. HDFC Group has been ranked fourth with a contribution of Rs 20,300 crore and ICICI Group has been ranked fifth with a tax contribution of Rs 12,800 crore. BSE-500 index includes 4-4 companies of both HDFC Group and ICICI Group.
Bajaj and Vedanta also filled the coffers
Bajaj Group companies collectively paid Rs 10,554 crore in tax during the last financial year. In this way, Bajaj Group with 6 companies in BSE-500 stood at sixth place in terms of paying highest tax. Anil Agarwal’s Vedanta Group stood at the seventh position, paying tax of Rs 10,547 crore. Anil Agarwal’s 2 companies are included in the BSE-500 index.
Birla’s companies paid this much tax
Kumar Mangalam Birla’s Aditya Birla Group stood at the eighth spot after paying Rs 10,100 crore. At number nine was Infosys, the second largest IT company, which paid corporate income tax of Rs 9,200 crore. While Axis Bank stood at the 10th position with a tax payment of Rs 7,768 crore.
In terms of companies, these are the top-5
In terms of companies, Reliance Industries was at the forefront, paying tax of Rs 20,713 crore. After that, the number of government bank SBI remained with Rs 18,840 crore. HDFC Bank stood third by paying Rs 15,350 crore as tax. At the same time, TCS stood at the fourth position with Rs 14,604 crore, while ICICI Bank contributed Rs 11,793 crore at number five.
