T20 World Cup 2022, KL Rahul: T20 World Cup 2022 is not going well for Indian opener KL Rahul at all. Till now Team India has played a total of two matches in the T20 World Cup, in both the matches KL Rahul flop appeared. In the match played against Pakistan, only 4 runs came off his bat. At the same time, in the second match played against the Netherlands, he managed to score only 9 runs in 12 balls. Former Indian player Anil Kumble talked about this form of Rahul. Anil Kumble has been the head coach of the Indian team and Punjab Kings.
Talking to ESPNcricinfo, Anil Kumble said, “It was a different thing in IPL. We were all saying that you are the best player. Go and bat in a simple way. Dominate with the very first ball, do what you are good at. Especially in the powerplays, I don’t think any bowler can keep him calm. When we used to play franchise cricket, he felt that considering the rest of the batting line-up, he had to bat for a long time and he was also the captain. You can say whatever you want from outside but you cannot control what happens on the field.”
Different role in Indian team
He further said, “It is a little different with the India team. I think his role is to just go and bat. When I was the coach, I didn’t want it to change, I just wanted him to be just KL and set the conditions with the very first ball. I think he switches on and off for whatever reason. We saw him in the last match for Punjab against Chennai where he scored those runs and had a good run rate. We have seen what he can do. They smashed all the bowlers and Chennai had some good international bowlers.”
He further told about the match, “In IPL 2021, Chennai scored 134 runs for 6 wickets against Punjab. To improve the run rate, Rahul scored 98 runs in 42 balls while batting fast. His innings included 7 fours and 8 sixes.
