He scored a total of 1164 runs in 31 T20 Internationals last year at an average of 46.56 and a strike rate of 187.43. Surya became the highest run scorer in T20 International in 2022. During this, he hit a total of 68 sixes. Due to these sixes, he also made the record of hitting most sixes in a calendar year in T20 International. During this, he scored 2 centuries and 9 half-centuries.
Vice-captain of Team India
Surya was made the vice-captain of the Indian team for the T20 series to be played against Sri Lanka this year. For this series starting from 3 January, Hardik Pandya was given the command of the team. Surya told that his father had informed him about his becoming the captain.
