Big Shiva Temple of Karnataka

Murudeshwar is a name of Lord Shiva. The huge statue of this temple is the most special thing here. There is a 123 feet high Shiva statue here. It is considered to be the second tallest Shiva statue in the world. It took two years to make this statue and about 5 crores was spent. Tourists from abroad also come here for darshan.
Mythology of Murudeshwar Temple
This temple is also mentioned in the Ramayana period. Legend has it that being pleased with Ravana’s penance, Lord Shiva gave him a Shivling. Lord Bholenath told Ravana that if you want to be immortal, do not keep the Shivling anywhere on the way. When Ravana came out with the Shivling, on the way Lord Ganesha cleverly sent Ravana to Lanka and placed the Shivling on the land of Gokarna. Ravana got angry with this and started trying to uproot and destroy the Shivling. During this, the cloth with which the Shivling was covered, fell on the Kanduka mountain of Rideshwar and this place became famous as Murudeshwar.
