Samudra Manthan in Sawan 2023: In Vishnu Purana, the story of churning of ocean has been described in detail. According to this, the churning of the ocean has been done in the month of Sawan only. Many people know about the story of Samudra Manthan and the pot of nectar that came out of Samudra Manthan. But do you know what were the things that came out of the churning of the ocean, which are not considered useful for humans, deities and creation.
Regarding the story of churning of the sea, it is said that, once due to the curse of Maharishi Durvasa, the heaven was devoid of Shriheen i.e. wealth, splendor and opulence. Then Vishnu ji told the deities along with the asuras the solution to churn the ocean. Vishnu ji said that the pot of nectar that will be obtained from the churning of the ocean will make you all immortal.
After this, Vasuki Nag’s neti was made and with the help of Mandachal mountain, the ocean was churned. After this, a total of 14 things came out from the sea one by one, which are called 14 precious gems. These 14 things were divided between the deities and the asuras. But a dispute broke out between the deities and the asuras for the Amrit Kalash. Let us know about those things that came out of the churning of the ocean, which are not considered auspicious.

halal poisonHalahal poison was the first to emerge in the churning of the ocean. The flame of this poison was so intense that all the gods and demons started burning. Then Lord Shiva himself drank it to protect the deities, demons and the entire creation. But due to the intense irritation of the poison, Shivji’s throat turned blue and his body temperature started increasing. That’s why a name of Shivji was also named Neelkanth. To reduce the flame of poison, all the gods and demons offered cool water to Lord Shiva. After this, the heat and burning sensation of his body decreased. This is the reason that Monsoon Jalabhishek of Lord Shiva has been done. It is said that when Lord Shiva was drinking Halahal poison, a few drops of it fell on the earth, which were consumed by snakes, scorpions and other poisonous animals. Because of this, these animals are poisonous.
Varuni: Varuni is a special type of liquor or wine, which originated from the churning of the ocean. Being born from water, it was called Varuni. The gods used to drink alcohol and the demons used to drink alcohol. That’s why it was received by the demons on the orders of Vishnuji. Regarding this, it is also said that this wine made from the fruits of Kandab is called Varuni. Whereas in Charak Samhita, Varuni has been described as a type of liquor which is used as a medicine.
It is notable that Halahal poison and Varuni, which came out of the churning of the ocean, cannot be called inauspicious. But it was not considered useful for humans, gods and the whole creation. Therefore, in order to protect the universe, Shivji himself took Halahal poison and Varuni i.e. liquor was given to the demons.
