New Zealand Tour: Former cricketer and coach Ravi Shastri recently targeted Team India’s head coach Rahul Dravid. He raised questions on Dravid taking a break from the New Zealand tour. Now Indian spinner R Ashwin has answered these questions of Shastri. In a video on his YouTube channel, Ashwin has talked in detail about the workload of the players as well as the staff.
Ashwin has said, ‘I explain why VVS Laxman took a completely different team there (New Zealand). Rahul Dravid and his team worked hard before the T20 World Cup. I can say this because I have seen it very closely. He had plans for every venue and every opposition team. These people have spent a lot of energy both physically and mentally. In such a situation, the need for a break is felt. Then as soon as the New Zealand series ends, the Bangladesh tour will begin. That’s why VVS Laxman has gone with a different coaching staff on the New Zealand tour.
What did Shastri say?
On Rahul Dravid taking a break, Shastri had said, ‘I don’t believe in breaks because I want to understand my team, I want to understand my players and I want to maintain control over that team. Why is it necessary to take this break? You get 2-3 months during IPL so as a coach you can rest there. But the rest of the time a coach should be ready all the time.
Coaches and senior players have been given rest
Team India will play three T20 and three ODI series on New Zealand tour. The selection committee has rested big players like captain Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Dinesh Karthik, R Ashwin and KL Rahul, including head coach Rahul Dravid for this tour.
