According to a PTI report, in 2005 Abhimanyu Easwaran’s father RP Easwaran had bought a place in Dehradun and then decided to make it a stadium. RP Easwaran had a cricket academy, which he later named Abhimanyu Cricket Academy. His son’s name was also Abhimanyu, but Stedimay’s name Perna was taken from Mahabharata’s character Abhimanyu.
Before this match, Abhimanyu had said in a conversation with PTI, “It is a matter of pride for me to play a Ranji match at a ground where I learned all cricket as a youngster. It is the result of his (father RP Easwaran’s) love and hard work and it is always a good feeling to come home here, but once on the field the focus is on winning matches for Bengal.”
