Sages-saints and sages-muni all went towards the forest for chanting-penance and search of knowledge because they wanted solitude. He could attain spiritual energy only by living in solitude. Not only in mythological times, but also in modern times, many saints and yogis live in mountains and forests for penance.

Buddha also attained enlightenment in the forest

Lord Gautam Buddha, the founder of Buddhism, also left the worldly and family attachment and went to the forest. After years of hard penance, he attained divine knowledge under the Bodhi tree.
