Rahul Dravid on Indian Pitches: The opening three Test matches of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2023 ended within 3-3 days. There were spin friendly pitches in all the three matches, on which the spinners got a lot of help from day one. There was a lot of ruckus about these pitches. In the third test, the pitch of Indore was also given a poor rating by the ICC. Now the head coach of Team India has spoken on such pitches being made in India.
Rahul Dravid says that pitches that give results in Test cricket are being prepared not only in India but all over the world, this is being done to get more points in the World Test Championship. This is the reason that the host teams are preparing pitches based on their strengths.
‘The benchmarks and standards have changed for Test pitches’
Dravid said, ‘Every team wants the result on their home grounds or should say that they want to keep their performance good at home. If the match is a draw then you get 4 points in WTC and you get 12 points if you win. That’s why everyone would like to get the result in their favor in the test. If you look at the last 3-4 years, you will find that pitches around the world have been challenging for batting. This is not the case only in India. In this case, you have to understand the real situation that what are the benchmarks and standards for Test pitches now.
‘An inning of 50-60 runs can also be decisive on such pitches’
Rahul Dravid said, ‘It has to be understood that now a good performance on such pitches can reverse the direction of the game. We can understand this from Rohit’s century in the first test. Here you have to support your batsmen. It has to be explained that this is a challenging pitch and it is the same for both the teams, consider it as an opportunity and do well. It is not necessary to score a double century here, innings of 50-60 runs can also be decisive in these circumstances.
