ONDC Platform India : The Central Government has started a new type of e-commerce platform Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) in Bengaluru. ONDC is now open to the general public in Bangalore. This is a new initiative of the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade-DPIIT (DPIIT) under the Union Ministry of Commerce and Industry.
pilot project
ONDC was launched as a pilot project by the central government in April 2022. ONDC has been opened for 16 pin code areas of Bengaluru. More than 200 grocery stores and restaurants have been added to this network in the first phase of trials. According to sources, users in Bangalore will not be connected to the network simultaneously in this beta testing, but this work will be completed in a phased manner. Kotak Mahindra Bank and IDFC First Bank are also expected to go live for users on this network in the next one week.
network of limited users
ONDC CEO and MD T Koshy says that till now this network was limited to a few selected users under the pilot program. The launch of its beta testing in Bangalore is a big step towards its full implementation. We will try to make this network even better based on the feedback received from the users.
use it like this
He said that we will have to wait a bit for the network to work fully. But, like the popular Star Trek dialogue, we’re going to a place no one has been to before. In this trial in Bangalore, Paytm, MyStore and Spice Money will be added as buyer side apps. With this, users can use this network to place orders by signing up on these apps.
focus on making things easy
Dilip Vamanan, Co-founder of Seller Onboarding Platform SellerApp, says that we have worked hard to make things easy in the back-end. Last night we found that our server is in the US, due to which the latency has increased. So we have to shift the server to India. This will help us to bring down the latency from 300 milliseconds to 50 milliseconds.
Join these merchants
Let us tell you that this network will host a roster of 11 seller-side-apps like grocery merchants, food and beverage outlets and consumer packaging goods (CPG) brands. These will include Unilever’s Ushop, Google, SellerApp, GrowthFalcons, EnStore and Innobits among many brands.
What is ONDC
Let us tell you that ONDC is a UPI-type protocol. Its aim is to take the fast-growing e-commerce sector to remote areas, help small retailers and curb e-commerce companies like Flipkart and Amazon. Both of them capture 80 per cent of the country’s online retail market.
