Competition Commission of India: Ravneet Kaur has taken over as the new chairperson of Competition Commission of India, the regulator of competition matters. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman administered him the oath of office and secrecy. CCI member Sangeeta Verma was holding the charge of the Chairperson of the Competition Commission of India before Ravneet Kaur took over.
Ravneet Kaur, a 1988 batch IAS officer, comes from the Punjab cadre and has over three decades of administrative experience in various positions in the Central and State Governments. Ravneet Kaur will continue as the chairperson of the Competition Commission of India for the next five years. There was no full time chairperson of the Competition Commission of India for the last seven months. Earlier, Ashok Kumar Gupta had retired from his post in October 2022.

Ravneet Kaur is holding the post of Chairperson of the Competition Commission of India when the powers of the regulator have been increased. Recently, CCI is starting an investigation against Google for not complying with its order despite issuing an order regarding the Playstore policy in October 2022. And the commission is investigating anti-trust cases against many big tech companies including Google. The government is preparing to bring a digital competition law soon.
At present, Ravneet Kaur was posted as Special Chief Secretary in the Cooperation Department in the Government of Punjab. She has held the post of Joint Secretary in the Department of Financial Services between 2006 and 2012 and has also held this post during 2015 to 2019. She has been the chairperson and MD of ITDC from July 2017 to July 2019. The salary of the Chairperson of the Competition Commission of India is Rs 4.50 lakh per month, which does not include house and car. On May 15, the Central Government announced the appointment of Ravneet Kaur as the new chairperson of the Competition Commission of India.
