Women and children are more in the number of HIV patients

According to the government’s ‘HIV 2021 Report’, according to Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Bharti Praveen Pawar, the number of people living with HIV (PLHIV) in India has increased by 24.01 lakh. Of the total estimated PLHIV, about 45 per cent (10.83 lakh) are women, and 2 per cent – ​​about 51,000 – are children under 12 years of age.

Maharashtra has the highest number of people living with HIV patients.

According to a figure, the maximum number of PLHIV (People Living with HIV) is in Maharashtra. There are 3.94 lakh people in Maharashtra alone who live with HIV patients. After this comes Andhra Pradesh. Where the number of such people is 3.21 lakh. Karnataka has 2.76 lakh, Uttar Pradesh 1.78 lakh, Tamil Nadu 1.63 lakh, Telangana 1.56 lakh, Bihar 1.43 lakh, and Gujarat 1.14 lakh.

There has been a decline in the number of people living with HIV across India

According to Bharti Praveen Pawar, the share of these eight states in PLHIV is 72 percent. There has been a decline in the number of patients suffering from HIV/AIDS all over India. According to HIV Year 2021, there has been a 46 per cent decline in new HIV infections in India since 2010. Citing the UNAIDS 2022 Fact Sheet, the Minister said globally; That’s a 32 percent decline in annual new HIV infections since 2010.

India controls HIV while fighting serious diseases

According to a new UNAIDS report released last week, India is among the countries that have shown the most significant reduction in HIV infections even in the midst of Covid-19 and other crises. The other countries in this list are South Africa, Nigeria and the United Republic of Tanzania.

HIV patient at risk of TB

Most of the deaths of patients with HIV are due to TB. People who have HIV have an 18 percent increased risk of spreading TV infection.
However, according to the report, India has seen an 8% decline in the number of people living with HIV being properly treated for TB in 2019 and 2020. On the other hand, countries like Tanzania including South Africa and the United Republic have seen a 30 percent decline in the number of AIDS patients diagnosed with TB and their treatment.
