‘I am 35 now, not 26’
Talking to talksport.com, Moeen Ali said, “The 50-over format becomes difficult for you as you get older. Fielding 50 overs is not easy and it certainly makes sense that I will do it. Now I am 35, not 26. I’m at the back and more pleasure for me – obviously I want to play – but if someone is doing really well and they’re ready and doing better than me then they deserve to play.”

Moeen Ali further said, “I don’t score too many goals. But I want to play 2023 World Cup, want to be a part of that World Cup and hopefully win this World Cup and then we will see. I am not saying that I will retire or I am also not saying that I will not retire. It might be a time when I think I’ve done it and I can look at Liam Livingstone and Will Jacks and think my time is up, I can get these guys ready for the next World Cup Would love to be.”
Talking further, he said, “I haven’t decided but I have kind of an idea of what I want to try and do. I really like to see the players coming in…whatever is best for us and the team and is going to make us champions, that’s more important and it’s really the bigger picture. I’m not always that desperate. I love playing cricket and I love playing for England, but it’s not everything and it never has been. Maybe that’s why I played more than I thought.
