Renuka was 13 years old when she shifted to Dharamshala. She has been a fan of South African fast bowler Dale Steyn since childhood. He made his international debut in October 2021. On 7 October 2021, he played his first T20 International match against Australia in Carrara. And on 18 February 2022, he made his ODI debut. He has been a regular part of the Indian team since making his debut in international cricket. She has so far taken 18 wickets in ODIs and 30 wickets in T20 Internationals.

Renuka Singh Thakur is the first fast bowler in the world to take 5 wickets in the Women’s T20 World Cup.
