There is a situation of concern in India as well, because 7 cases of Omicron’s Kraken variant have been reported here. The XBB.1.5 variant of Amicon has been given the nickname ‘Kraken’. XBB.1.5 is the only variant, which has worked to increase the concern of the Government of India. Not only in India, this variant of Omicron has become a cause of great trouble in many countries. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the XBB.1.5 variant has the ability to infect even those people who have been vaccinated.
The Kraken variant is the most widespread variant of the corona, which originated from two different BA.2 strains. It is rapidly spreading in many countries including America. During a press conference, WHO’s Kovid-19 Technical Lead Maria Van Kerkhove said that Kraken (XBB.1.5) is the most rapidly spreading sub-variant of Omicron. Kerkhove said that the most transmissible sub-variant found so far is XBB.1.5. Around 29 countries have reported an increase in corona cases due to this variant. Health officials are constantly warning that due to the decline in testing, this variant can spread much more rapidly and peacefully. WHO said that this variant has been found to be 120 percent faster than the previous BQ1 variant.
The SARS-CoV-2 Genomics Consortium (INSACOG) informed on January 3 that a total of five patients with the XBB.1.5 variant have been found in India.
